The MACU – Making culture a powerful tool of involving seniors into democratic life project is implemented within the Erasmus+ programme, one of the main educational programmes of the European Union. Erasmus+ supports cooperation between organisations from different countries, the exchange of experience, and the development of quality education across Europe, with the aim of strengthening democracy, inclusion, active citizenship and shared European values.
The Erasmus+ programme focuses not only on formal education for young people, but also on adult education, lifelong learning and supporting the active involvement of various groups in social life. Through international projects, it creates space for cooperation, innovation and the exchange of good practices among organisations across Europe.
The MACU project builds on these objectives and responds to current challenges faced by seniors in post-communist countries, such as social isolation, low participation in democratic and civic life, and a feeling of exclusion from public life. Through culture, art, historical memory and personal stories, the project supports the active involvement of seniors in society, strengthens intergenerational dialogue and creates space for sharing experiences and values between generations.
The aim of the MACU project is to demonstrate that culture can be a powerful tool of democracy – a means that connects people, supports critical thinking, open dialogue and active citizenship. Thanks to the support of the Erasmus+ programme, the project connects organisations from Slovakia, Poland and Romania and creates joint activities that have a long-term positive impact on seniors, communities and partner organisations.
